The first version was last telecasted in 1996. Due to the lost footage, the animators try to recuperate by employing digital training technology to make new frames. These frames were then filled up by using softer colors, leading to a lessened visual damage to the original animation. Digital tracing technology was used to guarantee that the original frames were not spoiled. The new version was re-drawn to produce a sharper and more defined quality animation; It is also being made into a 16:9 wide screen format.
While some of the previous frames have been cropped, they added a number of frames that feature new parts. The new parts were hand drawn to obey the designated proportion as that of the old picture. Because Dragonball Kai was re- altered to closely follow the old version, faster moving story was produced and damaged frames have been removed.
